Artefact 6 - Publishing Apps

To gain an understanding of application publishing further i have compiled a list of resources to find the best method in approaching publishing Android Air Apps (.apk) and Iphone Apps (.ipa).

1. A video showing how to develop apps with Andorid with Flash CS5

2. Creating an app using Basic4Android which uses Visual basic language with Android features.

http://www.basic4ppc.com/index.html

3. Creating an app using Eclipse and Android SDK (Javascript).

4. Use Google App Inventor to create a fast app but with limited options

Artefact 5 - Idea

From my previous arefact where i looked further into the navigation as being a crucial aspect in using app/websites on devices which can affect the user experience. This lead me onto looking into incorporating speech recognition as an additional test to add to my prototype which could be tested as well as the navigation when i create an app.

My next artefact is going to take a step back and hopefully build a working app of the we7.com website. This artefact will hopefully be deployed onto several hand-held devices for testing purposes. The results of this will be carried forward to build upon this for a final summary and to hopefully answer my question. 'Does redeployment of a website onto a hand-held devices enhance the users experience?.

The Task...

What I'm going to build? - I'm going to make an app using Flash builder and incorporating all of the content from artefact 3.

Why am i doing this? - To show a website in an app form which hopefully will be a prototype which shows how apps can enhance the website version.

Where I'm going to test? - I'm going to deploy the app onto varied hand-held devices and test through survey/questionnaire in focus groups. To get started I'm going to delve into the world of apps via looking into Adbobe Builder and Air. Ive found some useful tips on there website at adobe.com

Artefact 3: Ilustrations

Now that i have my questions for my artefact i need to create illustrations from my 3 designs in order to support my questions.

Here are the illustrations which i have compiled onto one page to view quicker...

Artefact 3: Testing

Now that i have my design ideas in place i need to come up with some questions which will get me results regarding which design and navigating preferences preferred.

Here are some questions i came up from research brainstorming...

  1. Which type of navigation do you prefer on a hand-held device?
  2. Which colour preference do find easier to view for navigating buttons hand-held devices?
  3. Which of the following do you prefer for navigating around the website on your hand-held device?
  4. How do you go about finding information on a website/app?
  5. How much content information do you prefer viewing on a hand held device?
  6. Which screen position do you prefer viewing websites?

Artefact 3: Designs

For my third artefact i am going to to find out what design/structure aspects of hand-held device apps create better navigation experiences on apps. The app design is based around We7

A bit about We7

we7 gives you great free music

we7 is an outstanding new music destination where you can listen to, share and discover music for FREE, legally and safely. You choose the music you want to hear and play full songs and albums online, on-demand at anytime. We also offer you the ability to buy the music you love in high quality mp3 downloads which you can play on iPods and most other digital players.

To test my questions i am going to build 3 app/website designs of We7 and use it for illustration proposes to gain feedback.

Here are the the wireframes...

Artefact 3: Ideas

After i finished my second artefact i found that I'm going to continue my research into navigation and the effects of layout in applications. I'm not sure as to what i am going to produce yet but i will see what users want from the layout and structure of navigating around. I'm probably going to look at creating several layouts and testing them in some way. The point of this is to touch upon the 'speed' and 'UX' of browsing redeployed website from my last two artefacts. As i have never created an app before I'm probably going to design the layouts as individual images and go from there :/ .......

Artefact 1: Design

For my first artifact i wanted to create a survey which would enable me to gather information from users of hand-held devises whom use the Internet frequently (3 or more times a week). I have tried looking at free survey websites which offer 'branching' as a way of eliminating participants depending on what answer they give to a question.

I have found a website called 'InstantSurvey' (www.instantsurvey.com) which is a FREE and can provide me with the 'branching' method. I have made a quick sketch to outline where my questions will lead to (below).
